Sand Bending
Originally written up on the messageboard by P3t3rpan, all photos used here are his reproduced from the messageboard. I have taken the liberty of editing it a little here and there and adding some words on the occasion but have attempted to leave everything pretty much original.
First, as instructed start off with dried sand

And some other bits and peices, the ingredients....

The bit of tube to be bent has been sealed up at one end with Silfos and the other end has been annealed.
Fill the tube with sand

Lightly tap with a chunk of wood so the sand settles

And make sure to leave a small gap at the open end

Now is where the fun starts, but before you charge on in like a bull in heat there are a few cautionary words of wisdom it would do well to adhere to.
1. Make sure your sand is dry! but treat it like it is wet. You are about to put a lead plug in the end of this, so make damn sure it is always pointing in a safe direction, if the sand is hot and you do make a steam powered gun, you do not want it to hit anybody/thing that is precious to you. If you are not confident, don't do it!
2. See 1.
Right so without a further a do, let's roll......
Heat up some lead

Pour into tube and pien over a couple of bits

Here is another

This is your safety valve and sand retainer
Mark out your desired radius and wrap folded wet newspaper to prevent heat creep

Now anneal as per spring video (which incidently I have yet to post)
Quench making sure the lead plug is not pointing at your eye in case your sand was not dry. This applies when heating even more so. Takes a while to cool or use hot gloves

Now pull around your knee
You will notice a slight ovaling of the tube.
Dress this ovaling with wood into the back of the bend , where the tube is thinner. Then re anneal to further bend the tube. The smaller the radius the more times you will need to anneal.

Here is a video of dressing the bend......
